Heeellloooo out there in the Lime Kingdom! You all have been asking for it, and here it is…This morning we just finished the rough cut of our Intro video designed, not for you, but for your clients.
Learn How to Edit with Pagelime in under 11 minutes
The video runs just under 11 minutes and covers the basics of editing content in Pagelime. Topics that are covered include:
- Basic inline editing of a Header
- basic inline editing of a p tag (main content)
- editing of a content area with mixed styles
- Basic use of repeating regions, both mixed styles (cms-editable-repeat) and compartmentalized (cms-editable regions inside cms-repeat)
- Drafts
- Publishing
I tried to keep the narration fairly neutral in tone and as general as possible for how you might have set up your users site.
What else does it need!?
This is a rough cut and I am posting this sneak peak for you, our users, to solicit feedback on anything you think this video needs.
That includes important points we may have missed, key editing techniques or client best practices, things that should be left out, items that are currently too confusing and need to be further clarified, etc.
As you know, our users are SUPER important to us, they make us who we are, so we really want to hear what you all have to say so we can make this video exactly what you need. Please leave your feedback in the comments section! We will be finalizing this video over the weekend and it will officially drop Monday, so please, don’t hesitate to tell us what you think!
(And yes, the final cut will have a snazzy, yet tasteful and appropriate sound bed, maybe even an exclusive Tom beat.)

Make an unbranded entirely and talk about it as using the content management system or something. I think I speak for a lot of people in my situation when I say that I don’t always mention pagelime to my clients.
Guys I’m really glad you decided to make this video! I was just about ready to make my own version of this for my clients but then you did it
YAY
What I love:
1. I love your tip about leaving a single character when editing text to preserver text styling- this is a great tip for my clients and it’s good that you mentioned it several times. I just say, “When is doubt leave an extra character.”
2. I’m also glad you added the popup dialogue that warns the user if leaving a page without saving – thanks for that
(maybe that’s been there a long time – but I just noticed it today)
3. I’m glad you covered repeatable areas the 2 different ways they may come in contact with them.
4. I think you covered all of the basics quite well
So some ways to improve:
1. I agree with Evan, the video should probably be white labeled as this will be used to show to my clients…. and everything for me at this point is white labeled. I also have a custom domain for the login page so I don’t think you need to walk the user through the login process either – just start already logged in.
2. It might be good to mention the sitemap?
3. Possibly zoom a bit in when you are talking about some of the things that are harder to see or read…
4. (Not necessarily in this video….) but It might be really cool to cover the other things that the client might find on their site actions page in compartmentalized videos in the future – that way if I enable a feature I can send them a video about that feature: analytics, manage documents, manage templates, manage navigation, seo, rss, managing images/publishing a folder or gallery of images….
GREAT JOB GUYS!
The video will be as best white labeled as can be by the time we’re done with it. We totally get where you’re coming from, that’s why the docs are brandable too.
Hey Brandon,
Thanks for the great feedback.
First, to you and Evan’s point about an unbranded version, that is definitely where we are going with this. This version served to set the stage and garner feedback. We are still working out some details about how we are going to present the unbranded version.
It was also the original plan to build out compartmentalized tutorials for each module. So great foresight on that. For the sitemap, I actually wanted to included that in this first video, however, it was starting to get a bit long. So we are planning to release that as the second mini-video.
In the final edit, there will be zooms and cursor isolations.
Again, thanks for your input. Please keep it coming!
Great! But we do need it in other languages as well…btw: what happened to the German translation of the Pagelime CMS??
Benjamin, since our translations are crowdsourced, I’m not sure who owns the German translation. Is it not complete? Do you want to take it over and finish it up?
Any news on when you’ll have this video done?
Hey Brandon,
It’s actually done! Sorry for the delay. I will be posting it up shortly. We’d love your feedback!
Great job guys!
Suggestion: I don’t think you should have any branding (DexCMS) on the video. This way it makes it generic and we can all use it for our clients.
Yup we definitely will try to make it as unbranded as possible.
Liana,
You can actually see the newest white labeled version of this video we released around noon today here: http://blog.pagelime.com/2010/11/12/client-intro-video-white-label-edition/
Wow! I am ready to give this a try…if this does what I think it does…then….what an awesome way to start 2011!!!
